In my 29 years I feel I have accomplished a lot. I have traveled and worked in many different places. I have put myself through college as a single mother, working and studying every spare moment to make it happen. I have owned my own business, taught myself to play the guitar and learned extensively about the benefits of wine and breastfeeding. I guess my biggest accomplishment doesn't belong to me alone but to my family as well. Together, my husband and I are raising two beautiful children and attempting to nourish our union as well as our individuality. So, I guess each day is an accomplishment grander than the rest. Each night my children go to bed feeling safe and loved and there is little more that I could ever wish to accomplish than that.
My decision to go to cosmetology school has been in the making for a long time. I thought about it before I ever started college and throughout those years I attended. I believe I chose college initially over beauty school because I thought on an intellectual level that studying psychology and philosophy and languages would benefit me more in my future. And though I count my studies as a blessing and benefit greatly from all that I learned, much of what I learned was about myself. I learned what I am really drawn to naturally, what experiences bring out the best in me and most importantly, that I cherish creativity and challenges So, in the end, I come back to what I was originally interested in and that is cosmetology. What I have learned is it the art of hair cutting and design is extremely challenging on an intellectual level and keeps me up at night thinking of ways to create certain looks! That is a feeling I never found in college, no matter how hard I tried.
I have always enjoyed playing with, cutting and fixing hair. I love to experiment with makeup and different looks. I have had almost every color hair imaginable. My hair has been really long and really short, shaved and razored, braided and bleached. Some looks were better than others but I love the idea of creating new looks on myself and on anyone who is willing to let me get my hands on them.
I look forward to working in the beauty industry and combining all of what I have learned in my life, about people and cosmetology to be the best stylist I can be. There is so much about the field of cosmetology that appeals to me, but especially being able to interact with people and to help them feel better about themselves and the way they look. My goal is to open my own salon eventually and offer a place that is not only sophisticated and glamorous but also stands out from the rest, offering a variety of unique services I have yet to see in any other salon.
Anyway, time will tell and along the way I intend to enjoy each and every minute of it as much as I can!
